Since the collective members are each creating a blog account, I thought I'd send a message while I'm at it. Yesterday's activities would have been a good vlog but I didn't bring the camera in my haste to get out of town. Words will have to suffice. I'm a member of a CSA and Jim & I visited the farm - last year fortunately I was sharepartners with Anula and Mike - this year unfortunately the farm is failing. All shareholders were invited to come out and pick whatever was in the fields. The farmer looked so sad sitting on a bale of hay. I thought he was doing well this year but he takes reponsibility for the failure as ultimately one of poor management. He had sold the land development rights to the state for protection so at least if the farm goes under it won't become condos. I really hope he can still find a way to make it. I hadn't been receiving my weekly dose of organically grown local vegetables in a while and really missed it. I almost forgot how happy it makes me. There was beautiful chard of all colors and braising greens, celeriac, garlic, hot peppers, basil and thyme, parsley and baby beets, lettuce, radishes, eggplants... I was able to pick enough to bring home goodies to a few neighbors too. On the way out we waved goodbye to the chickens getting fat on the compost pile and drove back to main road past the fields and fields of browning corn stalks. I wish I could bring back some of the fresh scent of the country air. I can't do that in video either so just smell the nearest bunch of herbs and you'll get the idea. This Summer had been a really productive and creative time for me. Now that the leaves on the trees are all changing colors soon to fall, the season marks my first year as a Co-Director of Termite Tv. I've got some cooking to do!
